Roger Bland worked at the British Museum as Curator of Roman coins and retired in 2015 as Keeper of the Department of Britain, Prehistory and Europe. From 1994 to 2002 he was seconded to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, to bring in the Treasure Act 1996 and establish the Portable Antiquities Scheme. He has served as President of the British and Royal Numismatic Societies and was awarded the President’s Medal of the British Academy and the medals of the Royal Numismatic Society and the French and American Numismatic Societies.
